About Us

Joy is our true nature. Turning inward is the practice.

The most important part of Pilates isn’t always what you can see. Breath, awareness, focus, and connection all shape the way you move through life. We encourage you to turn your attention inward and notice what is happening inside.

We don’t just take you through exercises. We teach you to recognize movement patterns, understand alignment, mechanics, and discover what helps you move with ease. Our goal is for you to build a practice that enhances every aspect of your life.

And because there’s something meaningful about doing this work within a like-minded community, we’ve created a warm, welcoming environment where connections are made, laughter happens, friendships grow, and belonging feels easy.

Our Founder

Rebecca Schefstrom

Rebecca Schefstrom, founder and owner of JOY Reformer Pilates, dreamed of opening her own studio for many years. As that dream became more persistent, she realized she wasn’t simply looking for a place to teach. She was looking for a studio where she herself would thrive as a client, a space where she could teach, take classes, connect with students, and build the community she had been seeking.

And that is where JOY began.

Rebecca brings 30 years of movement and wellness experience to JOY Reformer Pilates. A fully certified STOTT PILATES® instructor and longtime yoga teacher, she has advanced training in Injuries & Special Populations and specializes in post-rehab and functional movement. Throughout her teaching career, she has worked with people across a wide range of ages, abilities, and physical needs in Pilates studios, health clubs, hospitals, corporate wellness programs, and international retreats.

While her education is rooted in contemporary Pilates, her personal practice eventually led her to explore the classical work. Drawn to its dance-like rhythm and flow, she began studying the traditional method, weaving its principles into her own classes. Today, her teaching melds contemporary and classical approaches. Committed to continued learning and believing that movement should bring joy, she strives to offer clear, supportive instruction that helps clients feel comfortable, capable, and confident.

When Rebecca isn’t teaching or taking a Pilates class herself, you’ll likely find her meditating, hiking, paddle boarding, traveling, enjoying a good cup of coffee, or spending time with friends, family, and the two loves of her life: her husband and their Labradoodle, Chewy.
